CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY & The Supply Chain

International corporations have great power to change the world.

They provide employment opportunities and encourage trade.  They generally invest in the local community.  However there are many cases of worker exploitation, harm to the environment, the support of questionable regimes and one's business even becoming an inadvertent cause for unrest.  According to Global Witness, resource-rich developing countries have a 23% bigger chance than others of experiencing civil war.

The session will look at cocoa and clothing supply chains to examine how these issues play out and what students may be able to do to support ethical trade and consumption.
